Mystery Lens! Judge the quality and get a cookie.

this is the first lens i ever bought, and it is also the least expensive add-on that i purchased in my photography hobby.

i think it was either broken, poorly constructed at factory, or maybe it just wasnt made for a pentax camera, even though it has a k-mount, but it would not focus to infinity at all.

so i went all doctor on the lens and after 3 hours of scratching my head, having to saw off a cosmetic ring to get at a special and sneaky screw, i got it focusing to infinity, not to mention cleaning off all the dust inside.

i will tell you that it is a 50mm, fully manual lens.

tell me if you think these images are crap or good (from a sharpness/colour stand point), and what sort of 50 do you think it is.

wide open, (i wont tell you what wide open is )

at wide open i notice a softness, but after 2.8 the sharpness improves and stays constant

CROPS
this is a somethign like 200% crop, with the ceramic statue face being the center and the newspaper the far side, i posted the original so click to see as it wont fit here.

$5.00 well spent, the F 5.6 shot is really sharp. I just won 2 lenses from the same guy on ebay, should receive them early this week, both Chinars, One is a 35 MM F 2.8, the other is to replace my sticky aperture 135 MM F 2.8, got both of them for $22.77 including shipping, I hope they're in decent shape, lol

i will say however that until i took it apart and cleaned it up it was horrible and everything had a soft focus quality to it

i realized that it was just a really thick layer of dust inside that was the culprit!

If memory serves rightly, such was the lens that came as standard on the Chinon CE-4, which I owned briefly from new to theft a few months later. That brief period was my most forgetable introduction to SLR cameras, little and left abandoned until the purchase of a K100D last year.
Memories, Memories....

P.S. Can't remember the year, around the mid 1980s i think. The cost then for both camera and the standard lens was 250USD (around £125)
