F85 / 2.8 Soft - should I or shouldn't I?

Found an F85 / 2.8 Soft for sale at AUD$600. I am in the market for a portrait lens, and wonder if this one represent good value vs other options. Also - is the "Soft" feature redundant in these days of photoshop?

600 AUD ?
No, you should not.
Even at 300 AUD I still wouldnt buy it.

Its imo no good to have a soft lens. you can get a soft filter for a sharp lens if you want to. but the problem with both is that everything looks soft. its better to take a sharp picture and the make parts of it soft in PP, eg make the skin soft but keep the eyes sharp.

Mmmm... would be a nice lens to complete my collection of F series lenses (already have the F28/2.8, F50/1.4, F 50/2.8 macro, F 100/2.8 macro, F* 300/4.5, F 35-70, F 35-105, F 70-210, F 100-300). However, it's indeed too expensive just to get one just for fun.

you will be better off spending that money on Tamron 28-75/2.8.

600 AUD is a ripoff too, if I might add, Ive seen it new for less than 400 AUD new before. of course its not available anymore... but I see no reason why its value should go up, its far from FA*.
