Da 12-24

Just a quick question on pricing. Was this lens affected by the UPP? It can be had new for a little over $700 and I was curious if it was cheaper in the past.

This lens, mysteriously, is not and will generally have a lower in-cart price. I believe it's always been $600-700.

Thanks! I'm seeing in cart prices at $729 and was wondering if that might drop at times.

Just a quick question - what "cart" are we talking about since it's been backordered everywhere?

It was back in stock at B&H not long ago, but out of stock again I see. It seems to be available from Amazon (Adorama)however.

In cart might be the wrong term. I was able to click to see a lower price at either B&H or adorama.

Mine was $724.95 in March 07. Not much change.

I've been watching this lens for over a year now, and as Adam says, it didn't seem to be affected by the UPP scheme.

Adorama has it in stock right nor for $729.95, and that has been the selling price from most vendors for a new one all along. They do seem to hold their value also as the used ones typically sell for between $600 & $650.

B&H and Adorama seem to get a few copies in here and there - they seem like they are out of stock more often then being in stock. But both vendors have always allowed the lens to be added to the cart and be ordered.

I've come so close to buying this lens many times over the past couple years, but in the end always find a hard time justifying it since I do very little landscape or wide angle work.

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask here. Is the Samsung version of this lens optically the same? Or are the coatings etc. different?

They are exactly the same except for the EXIF data. Some of the camera's functions like highlight correction, shadow correction, etc also do not work with Samsung's version.

I never knew the pricing was that low! It is $1250 here.

Now if only the WR variety would come out...
