Can't decide which lens to carry

I need some help coming up with lens sets for different occasions. Too often I just grab whatever lens that was last attached to the camera and bring the FA*24 just in case.

Some help with organizaing the lenses into the following sets would be greately appreciated: everyday walk-around; portrait; travel; family gathering; night/poor weather; indoor/outdoor concert; street and cityscape/architecture. I would like to take no more than 3-4 lenses with me at a time.

Here is my lens collection:
Voigtlander 20/3.5
FA*24
FA31
FA43
A50
Voigtlander 58/1.4
FA77
DFA100 WR
DA*50-135

Thanks in advance

With that collection, it seems like you have a happy problem!

My suggestion would be to look back at your photographs and identify shots that you really like that are representative of the categories you described. Then you can use the exif data to see what lens it was (or if it was shot with a zoom like your DA* what the focal length was).

You probably have the information to make a data informed categorization.

The Voigt 20, 31, and 50-135 Would keep me happy - I'm currently not so well equipped the the miniature Ltds and "kit zooms", but I pocket ther DA21, FA35, and mount the 50-200 WR regularly... but the 50-200 WR is a bit more compact than the 50-135... tough problem you have... I'd love to see where this goes.

I have 10 lenses and carry them all. I think i'm going to buy a smaller bag to meter things out once I get to my destination. I have a large Tamrac that sits empty and longing for the day when the 500 4.5 does arrive.

I put it like this ; 1)wide, normal, tele. 2)Fix better than zoom(imho). 3)Lens size. 4)Other bells and whistles

So my choosing would be :
Voigtlander 20/3.5 - pancake size and widest you have.
FA43 - pancake size perfect for street and portraits, so it's a default on camera.
FA77 - perfect tele, but it would be second in line.
DFA100 WR - because sometimes you just need that WR and macro features.

I love this game. Here's my suggestion:

everyday walk-around FA31
portrait FA77 or DA*50-135
travel Voigtlander 20/3.5, FA31 or FA43 and DA*50-135
family gathering FA*24 and A50 or Voigtlander 58/1.4
night/poor weather FA31 and DA*50-135
indoor/outdoor concert DA*50-135
street and cityscape/architecture Voigtlander 20/3.5 and FA43

Basically, yes, you have too many lenses. Then again, who doesn't?
Have fun!
