Tamron 17-50 focusing issues

My parents bought me the Tamron 17-50 for Christmas this year and after playing around with it for a while, I've noticed that theres a bad case of back focusing. I've tried correcting it in camera, but have not had any luck and have decided to send the lens back to Tamron for another copy of the lens. What is the procedure for sending a lens back? I have the serial # card that came with the lens, and the receipt from when they purchased it on Amazon.

Wouldn't Amazon (or the specific site that the lens came from) be the place to return the lens initially?

Or are you thinking more in terms of a guarantee claim from Tamron?

I have no idea. Which would be the proper first course of action? I would assume I could return it to amazon saying it wasn't working properly and just exchange it, right?

If you can, just exchange it. It's much faster and less of a hassle then to do a warranted repair.

If it is within 30 days of purchase you go to the vendor for a return - Amazon in this case. If it is more than 30 days from purchase, you would need to contact Tamron for warranty repair.

Thanks everyone. It was actually through B&H. Submitted the request for an RMA earlier today. Hopefully I'll have a new copy in a week or so!
