The Bigma is a lens that has almost "legendary" status- it's IQ always impresses and while a prime would likely be sharper, faster af etc, the Bigma is probably the most versatile lens ever made- from 50mm to 500mm the lens is sharp, contrasty and isn't prone to CA (DG models)....I used one quite a bit with my Canon EOS MarkIIN and the lens never fails- for $999 nothing comes close to it really!

Everyone likes what they like. For my part I'm inclined to go slow on off brand lenses. The brand name that matches the camera body lenses usually cost a little more for the same quality photo----but also and the other end of the loop they hold their value. There are more than a few of the Pentax lenses that I own that will bring more now on Ebay than I paid for them.

I have not seen this to be true with Sigma's, tammys or any other "will fits".

The best IQ will come from the 300mm prime, the best versatility from the bigma. its just a question of... 'what do you want'. i have the f* 300mm and have thought of the convenience of the bigma on several occasions. then i look at the IQ, my personal criteria, and the f*300 wins. just decide what you want and go get it.
