Present Sigma 17 - 70 owners....

Are you considering getting the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM?
I consider the focal length close to perfect for a walk around.....
If it can focus faster and have better IQ I am going to take a serious look...I am sure my wife won't mind my 17-70 2.8-4.5

Any opinions welcome, of course
Thanks

Randy

Nope. It seems the newer HSM version lost a bit of sharpness in the transition and mine is plenty fast in focusing.

I wrote Pentaxforum's review of the various 17-70 out there. I suggest you read it

The newest 17-70 from Sigma (version 3, labeled "C") is not yet available, so not yet tested.

Thanks and I have in the past. You don't think the updated 2013 version will be improved enough to consider?
Man, if only someone had a full 2.8 version on the horizon
Thanks

Without testing it, it's hard to tell.

At 70mm, it would be quite a bit larger!

The dreams of using 2.8 zoom at widest aperture, yes you may. But if you are after iq wide open stick to fast primes. I am hoping for the upcoming pentax 16 85 to have great iq right from widest aperture. And macro function too. If these happen and with wr this lens will kick @$$.

And me think that it will be a remake of the famous "stack of primes" - none other than the A35-105/3.5...
So I think that if we are looking at a "fast zoom" throughout the range, it'll be better to imagine it starting from f/3.5 and not any faster, lest you get disappointed.

EDIT: Oh, of coz, within it's crop factor.. Say, ~20-70mm/3.5..

Canon has a 15-85 that wins praises. I think 16-85 or 17-70 thereabout will do for Pentax. Of course f2.8-4, WR, SDM II and Macro functions will make this a truly amazing one zoom to rule it all. Fingers and toes crossed.

Mine is fast too. Optical very good. A bit bulky, but about the same size weight as others.

Hello,

Just got mine (bought on a US webstore while living in Belgium), and AF does not work : 4 seconds to focus in good light conditions, jerky, not at all fast like on the videos I can find on Youtube.
I just sent questions to Sigma France to see what could be done about it... (but the "bought in US" part worries me)
