Got three SMC-M 50 1.7 lenses now... how sick am I doc?

To be fair, I just broke one, getting the fungus off the centre lens group, when a spider bit me, and I dropped it - man! the glass must be brittle, I swear there's no less than 1000 pieces of separate glass fragments - what an explosion.

The other two are minty mint. So no servicing required. And I wouldn't part with them for anything. Only because they're just such an immense pleasure to manually focus, and they deliver such lush photos.

Just thought I'd post this as I read in someone's signature that "you know you've got lba when you buy the same lens twice", so I wondered who's got the most good copies of the same lens? 3 minus 1 = 2, so I guess I'm in the running.

Now that sounds like a photo opportunity!

I read they don't always anneal the glass elements as it gives better clarity. Sounds a little bit like hokum (I used to work in the glass industry) but your experience suggests it has some truth. Annealing cools the glass slowly and relieves stresses.

It's a sweet lens, I can understand why you'd want one. Three does seem excessive!

The premise that optical glass don't go thru the annealing process is false.

I guess we're tied because I have two good copies of the M50 f1.7, too. I really wasn't in the market for a second copy, but a friend from my camera club offered it to me for $5 if I would also take the dead ME Super that it was attached to. That's really the only lens of which I have two identical copies. Let's not talk about overlapping focal length ranges, though...that could get ugly for me in a hurry!

I'm pretty sure I'm in the running too. For a while I had two copies of the DA 50-200. AND I DON'T EVEN MUCH CARE FOR THE LENS! To be completely candid, I got copy #1a and it had bad front focus problems, I exchanged it for another copy which was OK but not great as it is decidedly soft at 200mm and distances over 300M. I kept reading here and other places at how good this lens was so when the chance to get another copy cheap came along I bought the lens, and found it had the same problem as copy 1b. I finally sold copy 1b to Adorama when I got my K10D but still have the copy 2 of the DA 50-200, and I have just recently bought an Pentax A 70-710 F4.0. Much prefer the "A" so I will be soon selling copy 2 of the DA 50-200.

I have three 135mm primes - SMC-M 135mm f/3.5, Tokina 135mm f/2.8 and Sears 135mm f/2.8 .

Why do I need three 135mm primes? I just do, get off my back man.
