Asahi Super-Takumar 1:2/55 lens.

I just recently acquired this lens and I seem to have a problem with the switch from auto to manual mode. The switch appears to be stuck on one position. I have not found any type of release pin to make the adjustment.

Please help.

Thanks,

Tonytee

See a very tiny pin on the mount? (Not the bigger aperture pin -- tiny tiny.) The lens must be mounted on the camera or have an appropriate rear lens cap on it in order for the switch to move -- the pin must be held down.

Thanks for your response. I see the tiny pin near the rear of the lens. I have tried to hold the pin down while attempting to move the switch. No luck. Then I mounted the lens to the camera, and still no luck. The switch appears to frozen. I would hate to break anything by trying to force it to move.

Okay, I found the right pin. It is under the threads. I did hold it down and the switch moved. Many thanks.

If it is properly mounted on a body (even with an adapter on a K-mount body) and screwed all the way in, it should work easily every time. Original Takumar rear caps and most generic rear caps (but not all) will also hold it down if screwed all the way on. Very tough just to hold it with a fingernail or something though.

The bigger pin will close the aperture when the switch is in (A)uto mode...

If you mount this on a Spotmatic F, the pin will fall into a groove and not be pushed in. The lens will remain in auto to allow proper function of the light meter.

By the way, it's kind of a rare lens. There are plenty of Super-Tak 55/2s, but not many with the tiny pin and other accessories for open-aperture metering. I had a rubber focus grip version several years ago.
