If you'd like to try good primes you can buy them at a low cost by first getting an original Pentax Mount Adapter K (M42 Screwmount to Bayonet) and then buy m42-mount lenses. You can find many good Takumars, Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar, Jupiter, Zenitar, Fujinon, Mamiya/Sekor and so on that have m42-mount. Maybe by a 35mm a fast 50mm and a 105mm and see what you like to use the most. Those three lenses and the m42-adapter would cost less than half of what I paid for my 55mm. Then you can easily can sell them if you don't like them and if you are patient when you buy/sell them you don't have to loose any money. But if you need a good lens for the prom you probably don't have the time to test lenses like this ;-)

Don't have much time to choose, that's my main problem.

Is there a lot of difference bewteen the older FA 50mm f1.4 and the new DA 50mm? Are plastic mounts something I should be concerned about?

I have seen the 55mm for 520 in the sales. But also heard about problems with the motor and back focussing.

Don't worry about the DA*55's SDM motor, it's a very rare problem with this lens. Back focus is rather common but can easily be adjustet in the camera. Another great thing with the DA*55 is that it's a beautiful lens. Looks are important, or is it? (^_^)

The FA is slightly faster (but the difference between f1.4 and f1.7 is very small, probably unnoticeable in most situations) and made for full frame/film. The DA has more modern lens coatings, but doesn't have an aperture ring and it doesn't have distance scales. The plastic mount is not a problem at all, though. If you always use AF, go with the DA 50mm. If you like to focus manually and want to use the lens on old film cameras, get the FA.

Right, after a brief visit to my local camera store I have narrowed the decision down to:

55mm SWM and save for a 30/35mm

or

The DA 50mm and DA 35mm straight out.
