If this was AF, that's pretty impressive.

Sharpness seems ok, but those aren't full size samples. The bokeh's a bit nervous in the shot above.

After further reading in that site, I could confirm these pics were by Pentax DA560mm from a Japanese user.

http://review.kakaku.com/review/K0000416085/ReviewCD=569725/ImageID=107884/

Translation from his comments in Japanese into English via google
"I tried to take a few moments ago trial today. For me that is the main Handheld I did not know I was just passable and not try to shoot a variety of. I feel a gentle color glue seems Pentax has come out well too. I think enough depiction compared with FA600mm F4 ED is subjective. How much power there is in the rest of shooting flying bird of prey is also interesting."

Kingfisher; head-on BIF; Gray vs. bokeh = no PF; sharp as an eagle's eye. Birders' Delights.

Yes, I agreed. The bokeh's a bit nervous! But the pics a bit suprising me as I have actually not too much expectations from this lens due to its simple design.

I don't know any lens that has "nice" bokeh at f/14. Especially shooting something that far away, you aren't going to be able to separate it from the background too well.

Kingfisher shot is below average; I suspect PF wide open too... compared to my FA*600, I'm not conviced except with the possibility to handhold
This is a kingfisher with he FA*600 to compare

You're right, didn't even notice it was F14.

These are great ito little PF, but are these wide open and in similar harsh lighting conditions..?

The 560mm samples look great, but are they $7000 worth...?? I think I'll carry on dreaming about "my" sigma 500 f4/5...some day.

My opinion is the lens is overpriced now; let's see how much the price go down...
The advantage of the FA*600 is that you can shoot at f5.6, it is already stopped down to remove much of the optical issues; to release an usable f.6 tele, it must be fully functionnal wide open.

Hard to tell the performance on web photos, we don't really know if he used a solid tripod to get those shots ???
I would want to wait more shots from a reputable person.

I have to agree on the Kingfisher shot. Below average. True we do not know if he used a tripod or not, and from what I see, I actually hope he didn't. In my opinion, from what was presented here, is is way to early to call this is a birders delight. Time will tell, and there will have to be some real test of this lens done before anyone can heap unbridled praise on it.

Jp's fingfisher is way better than the one posted. I see LOTS of PF on the 560 fisher shot - hard to imagine Pentax would produce a lens like this. But the eagle looks excellent. It's also shot wide open and has lots of contrast. But has no PF... !? Pardon me for being a little suspicious of these pics... I'll wait for a few more from another source...

Edit: i browsed the japanese site a bit and the focal lengths indicated for the 560 are all over the place. starting at 350mm, the 3rd pic in the opening post. Some seem to have been taken with the 1.7x AFA. Especially with no exifs on the pictures, i don't believe a word i'm seeing. Time for bed.

The kingfisher is 1/100 and has movement blur. A bird with a fish in it's beak will be moving. It doesn't look like it was quite in focus either.

The third one in the list above isn't with the 560.

It took me a couple weeks to start getting any decent results from my DA*300. I thought it was a dud; turns out I was. Now I'm getting excellent results from it. I wouldn't judge the lens from someone taking it out the first time.
