DIY nikon to pentax adapter

Nikon E series 75-150mm f/3.5 is so sharp and contrasty that i decided to modify the nikon mount to lock firmly on my pentax K-30 ,,, i have mo portrait lens and this one gives sharp centered photos with dreamy bokeh wide open ...

The modification depends on get rid of the upper part of Nikon mount and fixing M42 to pk adapter instead (infinity adapter) .

Those are the screwdrivers used for this mission

This this the M42 adapter and Nikon E series mount

I went to turner to sand the upper part of the Nikon mount

Here it is after glowing with 2 tubes glow mix

Here it is after fixing to the Nikon lens

Mounted on pentax MZ-50

Shot @ 75mm f/3.5

Note :

i need to thinning the adapter 3 flanges somewhat ...

I have done a few mount conversions, all of them function, I assume, as yours, with manual aperture and stopped down metering (like M42 lenses)

My approach has been similar and different, I have had to sand the offending parts of nikon or minolta mounts/flanges/aperture rings etc.., when relevant, but as opposed to using an M42 adaptor as you have done, I use a flanged adaptor, and screw through it directly in place of the nikon adaptor.

I have also simply done a mount swap, putting an M42 mount in place of the nikon mount on a Nikkor H 300/4.5.

in reality, since the regestry distance of a nikon camera is 46.5mm and the pentax is 45.46mm, part of your approach has merit, specifically simply cutting down the nikon mount and gluing an adapter onto the camera mount. I can improve this one step further.

A flanged adaptor, in place of an unflanged atdapter, and then cutting the nikon mount completely off until the mount edges are the highest point. then gluing the flanged adaptor directly to the mount, followed by redrilling the mounting holes .

a I am not sure of the size of all flanged adaptors , but mine are 0.75mm thick, which allows for about 0.25 mm of glue and error to retain regestry distance without the need for any shims etc. or you could include a shim of some form (probably the best is a glass mat) to get the full regestry distance.
