P da 55-300mm or sigma 70-300 DG OS ?

my search for a not too expensive telezoom on my K20d, which is producing sharp images at the long end has led me to the above shortlist.
I want to use the zoom for wildlife as well as details in landscapes/buildings.

So far I cannot decide between the two: most reviews are good, both have incidental lower reviews. price is the same

Pentax for: extra short end, less weight ( 640-410), fixed lens while zooming allows use of polarizer filter
SIGMA for: higher review on this forum lens reviews. Seems to be a little sharper, OS at 300mm

I would very much welcome your advise especially if you have used both lenses.

Keep in mind the Sigma's rating on this forum (9) is cumulative of 4 reviews. The DA's high score of 8.69 is cumulative of 78 reviews! I wouldn't put much importance on those numbers for the Sigma, just going by statistics.

Having never used the Sigma, I can't comment on it, but the DA 55-300 is a marvellous lens with an added bonus of the quick-shift manual focus override (you leave the lens and camera in AF, but can "tweak" the focus by turning the focus ring at any time - very helpful at 300mm when shooting in to the trees!). The OS from Sigma is probably pretty good, but at 300mm you are just at the edge where it makes a difference to what you see. Your K20D's internal shake reduction is just as good, but doesn't affect what you see in the viewfinder (and doesn't use up battery power like OS).

Oh yeah, you can frequently pick up a used DA55-300 for ~$275 (or less) in the marketplace. Never seen the Sigma listed here...

I don't know the reputation of the new 70-300 DG OS version, but compared to the older Sigma DG APO and Tamron 70-300 DI lens, the DA55-300 wins hands down IMHO. The new DG OS version would need to be a significant improvement to knock the DA55-300 from its ranking.

Also, in the lens reviews, @wired is of the opinion that the lens is inferior to the DA55-300 after using it of some 8months.
