DA 18-135 diaphragm not closing evenly

Hello all,

recently I bought a kit K5-II with DA 18-135mm. I found out that the diaphragm blades on that lens do not move completely evenly, leaving a slightly non-symmetrical opening, especially at smallest apertures.

Is this common, or should I send it back (I guess so)?

What could I do to test how much the uneven opening / closing affect the pictures?

Thanks
Alex

That happened to me as well, on the Nikon 18-55. Especially at f/16< the opening would get into pretty weird shapes. But someone with the actual 18-135 should jump in.

Mine is slightly off, not perfect but not bad either. I wouldn't worry about it, although it may affect the shape of 'starburst' photos (taken at smaller aperture) though.

Both those lenses have 7 blades so they don't look perfectly symmetrical. My seven blade Tamron 17-35 is like that too. Aleonx3 is right, no need to be concerned. Including the 'starburst' effect.
Enjoy your new gear.

Thanx for the replies!

So I'll keep it, as it quite common apparently...
