D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro - Hard Infinity Stop?

Hi,

Does the D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens have a hard infinity stop? I'm thinking of getting one for use on my MX body, as it is smaller than the older 100mm macro Pentaxes.

On another note, is there another 100-ish mm lens with good close-focus ability? I don't actually need 1:1 macro. A wider aperture would be appreciated, e.g. the Zeiss PK 100mm f/2 with 1:2 reproduction.

Thanks!
TJ

The DFA 100 macro WR does have a hard stop. I cannot comment on the non-WR. Why is that important?

What do you mean by "close focus" ? On the current lineup (which can be bought new) then nothing pops to mind. If you're willing to go used then I suggest browsing the lens database and looking at the specs, you will find the info you're looking for.

"Just keep in mind that the latest DFA 100mm macro WR doesn't have an aperture ring, so it might not be usable on really old SLRs.
Also, check out lens reviews, you can search for "100mm" or "macro"

The Zeiss ZK 100/2 Makro-Planar has a hard infinity stop and an aperture ring.
Along with the Voigtlaender Apo-Lanthar 125/2.5,
it's about the only close-focus or macro tele that's faster than f/2.8.

Thanks for the replies

Looks like my choices are limited. 125mm is too long for me...

I need a proper infinity stop as I will be using manual focus exclusively and want to be able to rely on infinity being properly focused when I turn the focusing ring all the way in that direction.

I have searched the lens DB and forum but found no mention of hard infinity stops, though I did find a thread discussing the focus ring turning even after reaching infinity - I guess that's the way Quick Shift works?

Thanks!

Yes, the focus collar does continue to turn after it hits infinity, and you are right, Thats the quickshift at work, but "the lens I have" does stop on infinity its doesn't go past( as a mark on a lens ) whether of not that means something is infocus or not, just because infinity is used I can not say, but with a Manual Focus you'll see if its infocus or not.
