K5 Kit Lens Replacement: And the Winner IS......

The Pentax DA 18-135mm WR zoom lens!!!

Pro-Digital has them for $419, free shipping and no tax. The Pentax 15mm Limited will soon follow. With these two lenses and my new Domke F-5XB camera bag, nothing can stop me
This decision was not made quickly. I swear I spent 2 hours everyday for the last month and a half on these forums pouring over hundreds of posts trying to decide on zooms, or limiteds, manufacturer etc. etc....
Thanks for all those who answered my questions.

I'll probably just keep the DA L 18-55mm kit lens as I've noticed on ebay they don't seem to sell for more than 50 bucks. Wow what a price disappointment for such a decent kit lens.

I bought the first verson of the kit lens (new) for € 49, at that time about $56.
I sold it 2 years later after I had got the WR version (used, € 62) for € 37.

So $ 50 for a used DAL seems quite the correct price to me.
Also: In 1981 I bought the SMC-M 2/50, which was a kind of kit lens at that time, new for DM 99. That's nominal € 50, but in reality (inflation) less than $ 40 today.

Nowadays lens prices have gone crazy.

EDIT:
If you compare the real value of money, used SMC-A 1.7/50 or SMC-A 1.4/50 cost more than their price when they were new.

I don't know the OP, but I'm assuming it would be this seller on Ebay:

Now I don't feel so bad relegating the red headed step child DA L 18-55 lens to the closet.

A big part of me deciding on this lens was your posts regarding IQ on this very lens.

I actually don't think the DA L 18-55 is bad at all. I just wanted something with more range. Now that I have the 18-135, I can't really imagine a reason to use the 18-55 again, but I am grateful for some real nice shots I got with it.

You got your factors backwards. Because of inflation, those 50$ in 1981 compare to roughly 150$ today, so the prices for the typical kit lens have remained relatively stable. As far as I can tell, taking inflation and purchasing power into account, lens prices today aren't any crazier than they used to be. See for instance here for some historical data.

WAFFELING here just a bit. I want both the 18-135 and the DA 15 limited, but which one to buy first? I'm really looking forward to a fantastic limited lens.. Anyone just use the 15mm as an every day lens?
Which one would you purchase first? Remember I still have the 18-55 Da L kit lens.

It will be at least 6 months between purchases.
