Pentax 18-135mm and AF adjustment?

Are the Pentax 18-135mm good to go out of the box or have a number of you had to use the in camera AF adjustment specifically for this lens? I'm using a new K-5. I still need to update the software. Right now I'm using 1.01.

I hear the firmware helps on the K5. I didn't have issues with mine before I sold it, it worked out of the box.

Is there a difference between CDAF and PDAF?

Mine was dead on on my K-7. In fact, all of my lenses are dead on except my DA40, which needed a slight adjustment.

I have not heard a lot of people complain about focus issues with the 18-135. In general, it's DOF isn't "thin" enough to cause focus issues.

Misreading the way you wrote it, I almost thought you said it was dead on your k-7, along with most of your lenses! I was going to suggest you replace your k-7

I've never had any problems with my 18-135. Used it on my old K-5 and new K-5 IIs

Mine needed no adjustment, no lenses I use have needed any. I don't frequently use it wide-open, though.

Me too: The lens worked right out of the box without any issues on both my K-5 and my K200D.

I have had it since last summer and shot an awful lot of pictures with it in very different lightening conditions without problems.

Mine is also perfectly in-focus on my K-5 right out of the box, even wide open (which admittedly isn't that wide).

My 18-135 needed +10 on my K20D and was unusable on my K-x. I used it for several months on the K20D with AF Adjust activated, because I didn't want to take a chance on not getting it back before my Paris trip. After the trip I sent it to Pentax for calibration under warranty, along with the K-x. It's accurate now on both bodies with no AF Adjust.
