My F-series LBA

For some reason or other, I really like Pentax's older AF lenses, the SMC Pentax-F series. I guess I love their build quality (mostly metal, not much plastic). They're generally slower focusing than their newer counterparts, although the 28mm must be one of the fastest focusing lenses I own. But the best part is that there are some of the best lenses that Pentax has ever produced (outside of the limited and * series). I especially love the 50mm and 100mm macros: both are easily the sharpest lenses across the sensor plane in my entire collection of Pentax glass. Even the zooms I like - the 70-210 is better than the DA 50-200, and the 35-70 and 35-105's are hidden gems too.

Well, enough said, I'll let the pics talk for themselves

Nice collection!

And I agree w/ you, those F series lenses are some of the best AF lenses made by Pentax. Most of the later FA versions are not as good as those F ones.

Thanks Frank! The hardest part for me at the moment is that the F* 600/4 ED (IF) is for sale on this forum. I'm trying to scrape enough money together, but alas... My LBA has come to an end

But there will always be the next one. Or maybe I can borrow some money from my parents

Wow! The F*600/4? That's a beast! Well, a great lens I'm sure. But even our KING of LBA ((aka Jim King at DPR Pentaxforum) hasn't got either of the *600/4 lens yet ... You need to put in quite some money to get that one

That's an impressive collection.
All your lenses are so nice and clean. Not a mark on any of them.

Thanks! Well, the exception is the F* 300 because of its white paint. It's flaking off around the tripod mount. But that's a given with this lens...

Thanks! And I just used a Pentax DA 16-45 ED AL. It's quite a sharp lens indeed.

I have one SMC-F 28-80/3.5-4.5 which I am very satisfied with. i think that it's much more pleasant to work with than the DA18-55. The AF is really fast! (Well, compared to the DA-kit)

Too bad that you don't get the wideangle on a K10D, otherwise I really like it!

Latest news: today I finally managed to add the SMC Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 and SMC Pentax-F 135mm f/2.8 to my collection of F series lenses. This only leaves the 85mm Soft and F* 600mm. I don't really care about the 85mm, and the F* 600mm is a tad too expensive to my taste

Another "family pic" will be added soon.

That's a difficult question. For macro work (insects), I usually choose the F 100/2.8:

As a compact walk-around lens, the F 28/2.8 is hard to beat. When I absolutely need the sharpest results, the F 50/2.8 is the right choice as it probably is the sharpest lens Pentax has ever made.

Also, the F 70-210 always goes in the bag. I like it because it is sharper than the (usually more expensive) DA 50-200. This photo was made with it:

The one I love most, however, is the F* 300/4.5. This lens has an outstanding sharpness and is so small... I recommend it over the FA* 300 and DA* 300 because it has the hood built-in, so you'll never lose it.
