I own the DA 40. I have had some good results from it and a lot of so-so results also. I bought mine used and for a decent price. If I was buying new today, I would go with the 43.

WOW! That is an overwhelming response for the 43mm. Now, I need to save a few more pennies.

but the poll results, as well as these comments, do not mean that the DA 40 is pedestrian by any means; quite the contrary, it is one of the fastest focusing primes, and it is remarkably light and compact and is exquisitely built. The optical quality is outstanding as well. It's just that matched up against the FA 43 with its legendary (and well-deserved) reputation, f/1.9, pixie-dust qualities, and higher price, the DA 40 is going to come in second...

Hello All,

I just ordered my 43 1.9. I can't wait to start shooting with it.

Anything important an amateur should know before I start to shoot?

My "other" vote is for the FA 50/1.4 -- more versatile than the DA 40 and much less expensive than the FA 43. I had the DA 40 before, and don't find that I miss it . . .
