sigma 170-500mm asks for focal length

I have a sigma 170-500 lens. when i turn on the camera it asks for the focal length. is this normal for this lens. should i just hit the menue button to cancel it?

If the camera is asking for the FL it means that the data contacts on the lens aren't transmitting this information properly, and so you should try cleaning them.

Tighten the lens mount screws, had the same problem with mine.

I tightened my Sigma 105/2.8 Macro today due to errors like this and it works perfectly now.
