Rectilinear vs Fisheye

I recently bought a Siggy 10 to 20 (the cheaper variable aperture). It has opened up a whole new vista for me. Recilinear and parallel provided the camera is level. Totally different mindset. Recommended.

This is a great comparison - thanks for sharing it. I do own the 10-17 and have the 12-24 on my wish list. Your comparison really helps in making my decision.

I'm glad I pulled the trigger on a Pentax DA 10-17 a couple of years ago. It's a blast to shoot with, and if I may fire off my opinion, it blows away any other wide angle I've owned.

To get back on topic... I went with the best of both worlds and bought a used Sigma 10-20 and a new Samyang 8mm fisheye for just over what a 10-17 cost new. I'm very happy with but the 15mm thread has me questioning this everyday.

So do you have the 15 mm? Because that is the next lens I'm planning on for landscape and outdoor projects.

I have dreamed of a DA 15 for some time now, but you all have gotten me thinking about a wide zoom. I am not able to take the plunge for any of them yet. I have a 16-45 and the 18-55, but there are times when neither is wide enough. Stormtech either helped or confused the issue (thanks for the comparison!), but I think the 12-24 is looking like something I might want to think about. I am many dollars away yet so there is still time to make a decision.

I just picked up a 12-24 and had gone through the same thinking. A fisheye is wide but in my thinking an effect lens. I wanted to get a wide shot, not an effect, so I chose the rectilinear style. Had if for a short time and like it so far.

Could the moderator move the political commentary in this thread elsewhere?

What about using a fisheye and then correcting it in post? Does anyone here do this? I'm an idiot when it comes to knowing much about that particular thing, so does it, in the end, afford you a greater expanse of view after correction, or effectively the same? For instance, would a corrected 10mm fisheye shot give you more of a view than a 10mm rectilinear?

I appreciate the posts and it appears everyone has a favorite and I need to find mine.

I am new to this forum and relatively new to DSLR photography.

Anyone have any examples of eliminating fisheye via software using an ultra wide fisheye? Or is does that cause other issues? Sorry if I missed that in the posts, I used my computer last night to post and am now viewing the replies on my phone.

I think I am leaning to a wide zoom rectilinear and then start saving for a prime fisheye if I do not like the results of the digital filter in my K-30.
