500 lens question...

My gear is currently a K5II with 18-135 WR lens.

I am currently doing equestrian photography and this setup has been well up to the job.

Now I have been asked by friends and family to do some photos of their children, portraits, natural shots outdoors etc.

This is where I need your help.

My budget is now 500 and I would like to get a lens that produces some real 'wow factor' results. Focal length I am open to suggestions, the lens just needs to have good IQ and be able to AF on the K5 II.

I would prefer new, and would buy 2 lenses within the budget if required.

I do not have a flash, so if a slightly cheaper option + a flash would be recommended then thats another option for me to look in to.

I know this is a bit of an open question, but my local camera store only had limited lenses for me to try out (Sigma 30mm & Pentax DA 50mm).

I would try to stay under 50mm focal length as 50mm gets a bit tight indoors.
A bit over your budget but I'd say that you can't go wrong with the Pentax FA 31mm. If that's too steep a price, check out the FA 43mm ltd. It's a bit under your budget but a stellar lens. Also check out the Pentax DA 35mm macro. I don't own one but I've heard lots of good things about the sigma 30mm F/1.4. If you are not adverse to second hand lenses do a search for the 31mm ltd, it is that good a lens, you may be able to find one in your budget range.

Thanks you - will look at all the above options! I think the lens will be used more outdoors than indoors, but dont want to get stuck having a longer focal length for those slight occasions that I do indoor shots.

Pentax FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited. I think you'll find the "wow" factor there.

Will see what prices I can find the 43mm at, and go for there!
