Well, that is kind of why I wanted it to be a super deal that I couldn't pass up. I really had no intention of buying either alone or together otherwise. I already have a decent spread of lenses and I know these are as good, some would say better than what I currently own, The AF alone makes them a little interesting. Today I photographed the same scene with my K24, DA35 Ltd and the M50/1.4 and I liked the M50 version the most and DA35 second, and the reason was mostly just do to my being forced to stay at exactly the same distance to shoot from and I preferred the framing of the tighter crops. I understand the FA24 has good contrast and that would be nice, the K24 is not a contrast machine. I will wait for now and see if he accepts my first offer. I will try patience in this deal and if it gets away I will only regret it a little longer than how much I would regret spending the whole $550. My first wife instilled a lot of training into me that I have only begun to unlearn. I have a much better wife now.

For me, that's one of its many virtues, the gentler gradation.
With difficult scenes, it doesn't need so much shadow/highlight compensation.
And if you do want more contrast, even after using a hood, it's only a slider away.
The contrast of the FA*24 made sense on slide film, but not so much on digital.

If these lenses are the FA*24 f2.0 and the F 100 f2.8 macro and they are in top condition then I believe this to be a very good deal.

IMO the F 100 f2.8 Macro is about as good as they get at this focal length (I have one and prefer it to the DFA 100 - which I sold, and the DA100 WR, which I still have). The FA*24 f2.0 should be checked quite carefully before buying, there are variations between copies - last year I bought one (and returned it) that had beautiful colour rendering but was too soft at f2 through 2.8, a few weeks ago I bought another that is sharp enough at f2 (and very sharp by f2.8). I have the disease (LBA - related) that means I buy, try, and sell many Pentax lenses - but i have a core set that I have built up over the last few years that I hold on to, the F100 and FA*24 are in this set

This would be a sight unseen sort of deal and I don't think the seller is going to be able to tell me much about internal condition. I would be throughing the dice on this one. All these things I have mentioned are why I am not in a big hurry to buy, especially at the asking price.

He has counter offered wih $400, so I said I could do that much. I still want to ask him some additional questions about their condition before I finalize though.

I picked up the two lenses today, and here they are. They both came with everything in the box, plus a working PZ10 camera. They both show some very minor use on the exterior, but nothing I am concerned over. The glass, now that looks flawless.

FA*24/2 @2 iso 80; taken on tripod w/remote mirror up, no PP converted from RAW

F100/2.8 Macro @3.5 iso 400; hand held, no PP converted from RAW

An example of the benefits of a good (Pentax) education. The seller was misplacing the value, and listed everything as part of a complete underwater outfit that he was selling. It was designed specifically for the PZ30. He only listed the lenses as including a 100mm and 24mm lenses. I just recognized them from the photos for what they were, he still has the underwater stuff and the PZ30 he can sell also.
