Is a FA*24/2 and F100/4 macro for $550 a great deal or no deal?

I offered 300 but they want 550 is that market or a good deal, if current market I would just pass for now. I have k24/2.8 and a M100/2.8 so isn't a gap. Appreciate your thoughts or suggestions.

You always hate the fish that got away. $350 for the 24 plus $200 for the macro is not bad at all.

I think the deal was OK, I would have been interested in the FA24/2, but I don't need the 100macro. It depends on the condition.

I don't believe there are hoods with either.

I'm unable to comment whether the price you were offered for the FA24/2 is good or not, and I have no experience using the K24/2.8, so I can't compare it alongside the FA24/2.

But I highly regard the FA24/2 (FA*24/2, to be precise).

It is true that some controversy does surround this lens, in particular an alleged lack of edge sharpness when using wide apertures.

But in my several years of experience using this lens, whether on film or digital, I have found it to consistently produce stunning images - intense, clear, having superb contrast and simply breathtaking colours. And being a FA era lens, the pictures it produces have an FA "look" to them (different than the "DA look") which to my eyes is very pleasing indeed. (I also like the DA look).

I've also found it's bokeh to be very pleasing, particularly when photographing a subject close up, using a large aperture.

Of course, that f2.0 helps in low-light situations.

Note that on APS-C it is no longer able to function as an ultra-wide angle (like I used to enjoy in film days) but becomes a 36mm equivalent lens - thus it finds different usage.

In summary, what I'm saying is if you can get a good copy of this lens (without fungus on any of its elements - be careful), then you can expect to enjoy the above traits described.

For someone who wants an FA*24 and macro,
the price seems reasonable, but not a steal.

IMHO, the Tamron 17-50/2.8 is a better AF option than the FA*24 at 24mm,
about the same bulk (with hood), but having superior resolution across the frame.

IMHO, the FA*24 f2 is worth more than $550 on it's own. The FA*24 sells for $600 when you can find one, and the rendering of that lens is sublime. Not Tamron 17-50 sharp.....SUBLIME.I think it's a steal. Buy them, sell the macro.

I didn't think they made a F-100/f4 macro. I have the M-100/F4 macro, and it can found for less than 100 bucks.

Agreed - I'd buy them just to try them, it will be no loss in the end.

I think it's a steal, the F100 macro sells for about $400, if you can find one. It has the same optical qualities as the FA100 2.8 macro. I have the F version and love that it's built like a tank, very sharp with very fast AF. If they are in great condition I would jump on them in a heart beat.

closed the deal?

If the lenses are in good condition you should seal the deal! Having used the FA 24 for a year or so now, I cannot imagine being without that great lens.

It is my general practice to check the better (on internet) retail stores for used lens prices. As they may be more reliable, and often have a 2 week to 4 week return policy, and often competitive in price. Based on the price differential you can make a more informed decision. BTW KEH has (as of 1 hour ago anyway) FA version of both lenses if you choose to do what I suggest.
