Help me guess what lens this is?

Correct answer will get a cookie!

This is just an additional lens in a lot I plan to purchase, I figure it's already worth it based on the other lenses that are included (that I was able to make out from the photos), but I can't put a finger on this one...

What I do know:
-M42 screwmount
-105mm

Most likely a prime, no-macro, I'm guessing.

Okay, so, speculate away, guys!

Just to get the detectives started: My guess is a Vivitar TX or T4 interchangeable, 105mm f/2.8 or 135mm f/2.8 (or f/2.5?). The clues are the double-scaled aperture ring, the number of 'bumps' from front to rear on the focus ring, and the protruding screw or pin on the mount. You indicate that it has an M42 mount, so there would be a TX-to-M42 or T4-to-M42 adapter. The green and white scales also suggest Vivitar.

The double aperture scale (and internal mechanism) is designed to allow the lens to be compatible with different camera makers' metering systems.

I don't actually own one - just recalled reading about them when I was researching Vivitar.

Wow, you're good at this.

Actually got a reply from the seller, he made a mistake and it was 135 not 105; Vivitar 135 2.5.

Thanks, problem solved!

Yes, this is a TX or T4 mount with M42 adapter. My gut feeling (just a feeling, don't ask me why) is that is a T4 mount, not TX.

Like you, I don't think it's a macro lens.

Cookie, as in computer network or treat?

Glad to have helped. If you get the lens(es), please let us know how the Vivitar works out.

I had one and it was at least good except for flare. It's close to the size of the K135/2.5, 6 blades, for some reason only stops down to f16, slide-out hood, 58mm filter. The adapter might give you some trouble and need modification. The T4 adapter did but I never had the TX/M42 adapter.

Tokina made these TX lenses, by the way (being f2.5 means it should be a TX, not T4). They seem to be rather obscure. I have the 200mm and 24mm (version 2), both of which from my very limited testing seem like competent performers. I'd expect the same from the 135/2.5 (n.b. there was a later f2.8 version of the lens as well). I'd love to see some shots with the lens when you do get it!
