I thought I understood the camera/lens behavior. But apparently not.

Please try the aluminum foil trick. It may or may not help with the problem. But it can't hurt.

No problem. Thanks for trying. I'll try the foil thing tomorrow. Going to bed now.

I have a newer version of this 55/1.2, labeled Cosina and with a normal chromed mount. Except for mount color and focus grip, my lens looks similar to your photo. I can't duplicate any of those problems you describe with my K-7 or *ist DS.

The only suggestion I have is to remove the light shield. On my lens it's held in by a single screw near the aperture lever, at the end of one of the bayonet tabs. That would remove one potential interferer. When the lens is focused to 0.6m, the rear element doesn't project into the mount, so that shouldn't interfere with anything. If it still doesn't work right, that would narrow it down to the aperture lever.

Compared to my A50/1.4, the rear element doesn't seem to project a lot deeper into the mount, possibly 1mm if at all. But it is significantly larger in diameter.

I'll have a look at that when I get in from work.

Thinking about the rikenon 55mm now, same as you, it will be my first 'exotic' lens purchase and now you have me worried...
I got mine few days back; while it's fine overall.. I am concerned with two things. One, the purple fringing is enormous fully open. Two, it wont focus to infinity on my K5. Interestingly, I mounted it on my panasonic gh2.. (with adapter) and it seem to focus correctly.
