Sigma 24-70 F/2.8 sample pics

The latest lens that I have purchased to add to my collection is the Sigma 24-70 F/2.8 sample pics....I will need to to a proper comparison with my Tamron 28-75F/2.8 but so far I am liking the images put out by this beast...
My biggest and really only complaint is that it is slow to focus...Likely as was pointed out to me by Peter because it is turning allot of heavy glass...This is a beast...
All the exif is intact...ALL pics where shot hand held.....

I would love to see the comparison between this and the Tammy. My walk-around style have more wide shot than tele, so this one might be a better choice.

Beautiful colours Javier,

I love my 24 - 70 as well, and usually leave the primes at home now that I own it
It's slow to focus with my Sigma as well, even though I believe that it's a motor drive on it
However when it locks in it's usually spot on

Thanks for sharing. I just got myself a used 28-105 3.2/4.5 to tide me over until I can scrounge enough money to buy a short telephoto zoom. I'm leaning towards Sigma, if only because I can't seem to locate a Tamron dealer here where I live, and I'd rather test lenses before buying them. Going the Tamron route for me would mean buying online, and if the lens turns out to be a dud... well, you get the idea.

The 17-70 and 18-50 are the ones I'm leaning towards, but I'm not also averse to using lenses designed for full frame, since I may be looking to buy a film camera later on (and gets me ready in case Pentax/Samsung decides to go full frame, haha). The 24-70's looking good right now, I must say.

Any PP work done on the pictures?

P.S. Thanks also for the camera + lens photos. You hit the spot for me, since I intend to use the lens I'd buy on a K100D Super.

Question for all users of 24-70 f2.8.
How does this lens do with flare control? what are your experiences? Does anybody have pics "into the sun"? Reading on the internet I'm bit concerned about it, it's still top of my list.

It is a slow to focus, but when it does, it is spot on..I shot those pics with the K110D / no shake reduction...

As far as PP goes, it was mostly croping, resizing and on the second to last photo sharpening..All others are what came out of the camera...
I should note that I have the Camera set on Bright mode, +2 Sharpness, -1 Sat, 0 cont...
On the K100D Super, the K110D, The in camera settings make quite a difference so most pp is done in the camera if I am fortunate. ...On my K10D, The in camera settings don't make much of a difference at all...

Here is the EXIF data from the first pic.

# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/200 second = 0.005 second
# Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 28/10 = F2.8
# Exposure Program = aperture priority (3)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 400

# Exif Version = 0221
# Original Date/Time = 2008:02:27 00:00:00
# Digitization Date/Time = 2008:02:27 00:00:00
# Shutter Speed Value (APEX) = 7643856/1000000
Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/200 second
# Aperture Value (APEX) = 2970854/1000000
Aperture = F2.8
# Exposure Bias (EV) = 3/10 = 0.3

# Metering Mode = center weighted average (2)
# Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
# Focal Length = -1/1 mm = -1 mm
# Image Sensing Method = one-chip color area sensor (2)
# Image Source = digital still camera (DSC)
# Scene Type = directly photographed image
# Custom Rendered = normal process (0)
# Exposure Mode = manual exposure (1)
# White Balance = auto (0)
# Focal Length in 35mm Film = 105
# Scene Capture Type = standard (0)
# Contrast = normal (0)
# Saturation = low (1)
# Sharpness = hard (2)

# Subject Distance Range = close view (2)

Yes, There is some lens flare. But to be fair, I had a giant greasy fingerprint on the side of the lens closest to the Body when I took this pic...I have since then added a UV filter to it and seems to have cured the problem...Personally, I think a bigger lens hood would be the answer to that, but then what do I know..

vinzer,
2 of the 3 sample Sigma SD14 pictures linked to on my main page were taken with this lens. The Duck shot wasn't, I used my Zeiss 200mm f2.8
If you'd like you can pixel peep with the full sized images linked to it.
I think that you'd be impressed with the IQ, and in my opinion the lens makes most of the difference.

I'd give you the exact link, except the internet connection here isn't working right, so I can't access my own page
(someone please let me know if my site is acting up as well )

If Little Laker gives it the thumbs up, then it is a great lens as he is one of the best photographers here...

Damn that's a big sucker. Makes me wish the Tamron 28-75 went down to 24mm, I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat.

Maybe it'll be the Sigma (or DA) 17-70, and I'll ust forget about using it with film.

The main reason I went after it was indeed for the extra 4mm...Most folks would think there is not much difference, between 24 and 28, but atleast for me, the difference is huge..
