I'm done with neck straps. I use either a sling or a wrist strap.

This is my sling, the Carry Speed CS-Pro. I wear it over my left shoulder:

Over my right shoulder, I carry a messenger bag with the second body and spare lenses.
Looks good.
I thought for a moment that you were using the very uncomfortable "regular" strap!

In my personal opinion from using telephotos for close to 40 years, that while I own and use 300/2.8s even now I prefer the versatility of the old Sigma 100-300/4 best many times. At 300mm the IQ is almost indetectable from that of the some of my Canon mount 300/2.8s and definitely on a par with the Canon EF 300/4 USM L. I would match it against a DA* 300/4 anytime and would doubt anyone could tell the difference. One advantage that I don't have with my Pentax system is the better TCs available for Canon lenses in my other system. Even the Pentax AFA 1.7X is no match in IQ for the Canon EF 1.4x II or III or the Kenko Pro 300 1.4x. I know I just sold my 1.7x here over the weekend after owning it for close to 2 decades. I used it mainly to AF my Tamron 300/2.8 and other AD-2 lenses including my last 360B model I also sold this weekend. However my Sigma 100-300/4 in Canon mount was owned by a nature photographer and I saw much of his work before he sold it to me so I knew I was getting a good one. Also sold my Sigma 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 this weekend as I am trimming my Pentax system down to a max of 3 lenses plus my Vivitar S1 105-2.5 Macro. All F4 lenses as I'm getting too old to use F2.8 all the time. 12-24, 17-70, and 60-250 but right now I have the Sigma 24-60/2.8 EX DG slotted in the middle while I locate the ones I want. I have very good FA 28-70/4 and 24-90/3.5-4.5 Pentax lenses also. Generally zoom lenses with ranges over 3x are not particularly good at the long end. Too many compromises must be done, but making them slower (50-500) can help some however they still get weaker the higher you go. If I needed 500mm for Pentax I would spring for the Sigma 500/4.5 EX DG APO. That lens is way better than any of the zooms, but it costs accordingly. As an aside the optics in the current 500/4.5 EX DG are the same as the much older 500/4.5 APO and EX APO, they just don't have the DG coatings and can't be firmware upgraded by Sigma any longer like the DG version can.
You said it: much higher cost.

This is what I wanted to buy - didn't work out so I will be using the 150-500 for a while until the budget allows.
I am thinking of selling a few very good lenses as well, and put that money toward a prime 500mm lens for later in 2013 or 2014. That will certainly take a while but, at the end of the day, that will be the lens to get.
