What's with the unavailability of the DA* 55mm?

Why is the DA* 55mm seldom available lately?
I got a notice the other day from B&H that it was available by special order only, and all orders were non-cancellable and non-returnable.
By the time I had a chance to order, they were "backordered" again.
Is Pentax-Ricoh only building one a month?
Any insight is welcome.

70mm ltd also in short supply

I've been waiting on a 70mm Ltd to come in that i ordeded late December.
Usually in our part of Canada it takes about a week for my local shop to bring in lenses they don't normally stock on hand.
Apperently they are waiting on stock from Japan (or Vietnam or ....)

Same strangeness with the DA*300 - B&H has shown "back ordered" since mid December.

Our selection of lenses is already limited with Pentax - you would think they would at least keep the retailers with inventory of the few they do have........

Great point!
I assume no pun intended with the line "Our selection of lenses is already limited with Pentax" ... ;-)

They're in stock at B&H, though I assume you'd pay more for it going across the border.
Maybe I should grab one now for my newly acquired K-01...

True but they also had my DA*16-50 in for repair (not SDM by the way) and the parts were also back ordered about the same timeframe as well. Both came back, in excellent shape, and are in use now. One can only say, good things take time I guess.

I noticed they're in stock, but they are also about $200 more than my December price and about $100 more than the regular price in Canada.
That said, if you can't get them price doesn't matter much.

That's great!
I called B&H on Friday and they said the DA70 was $550, ~$150 less than what their web site says. Calling will yield lower prices on several Pentax lens. Read that on the Forums here somewhere.
A then noticed that they had a used one for $450, so I grabbed it.
