Samyang/Rokinon to release AF lenses in 2013

Samyang to produce Sony E-mount AF lenses | News | TechRadar

They're for the Sony NEX, but hopefully this means they'll start making AF for other mounts as well. Pentax has to be one of the easier ones, with no motor in the lens.

Charles.

NEX was probably chosen because it is free: Sony E-Mount (NEX) Specifications Go Open Source - Softpedia

Back in 2011 NEX was struggling. The only lenses were the 18-55 and 16, and both were not well regarded. To Sony's surprise, 3rd party manufacturers didn't target NEX and had no existing plans to target NEX. So in desperation Sony opened the specification in an attempt to drum up some lenses and address the weakness of their system.

Rokinon can target NEX because the mount is basically free to all comers. Other systems generally have NDAs and developer fees. Success on NEX may provide the cash needed for Rokinon to target other systems.

Just to be clear, I think you are pointing out that the KAF2/3 mount (particularly the spec for the seventh pin) is proprietary, in contrast to the E-mount. I guess technically, someone could easily design a screw-drive lens without the seventh pin, but I think supporting the seventh pin would make it more useful (like for communicating the FL to support SR).

I think a little more automation would be great for Samyang lenses.Would make them more competitive
