35 mm vs. 50 mm lens, advice needed

I now have K-5 and Pentax M 50 mm 1.4 lens. I also have Tokina 17 mm, f/3.5 Manual, Pentax M 28 mm f/3.5, Pentax 40 mm XS and Tamron 90 mm macro.

Would it make sense to add 35 mm f/1.4 Samyang/ Rokinon manual lens?

I would suggest a DA 35/2.4 AL ... great bang for the buck (I have one) ... and there's the 35 Limited Macro as well. Both are AF and I find the Samyang quite large, but again it's fast and all manual - J

I don't know, does it make sense? You would see a FOV somewhere in between your 28/3.5 and 40mm XS. Viewfinder brightness would be about the same as with your 50/1.4. If you can tolerate a step down in build quality and really like shooting manual focus in that general focal length, give it a go. Personally I think I would try and find a Pentax-FA 35/2 at about the same price point. That Samyang is huge!

I can only speak for the DA 35 F2.4 but I like it a lot. It's my street lens since my 50mm is all manual I found myself missing great shots.
IMHO I think you already have a good lens setup so I would not spend money buying a 35mm lens.
What kind of pictures do you have in mind that your 40mm or 28mm can't cover?

You have a pretty sweet setup there. Can't really say you are "missing" stuff

Thank you all for your advice. I was looking for something faster and with wider view than 40 mm XS for indoor shots. I also have Pentax 18-55 WR. Whether a faster prime would give me a better result than 18-55 WR was what I am wondering.

I am clearly an amateur photographer with interest on landscape with occasional opportunity for family events.

You can try this:
Samyang 24mm F1.4 Lens Reviews - Samyang Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
But it is a little expensive and mostly manual (no AF, no contacts)

I have two 50's (new and an old M) and the DA 35/2.4 AL practically lives on my K-x. I love it. Used it today, in fact.

IMO if you gonna shoot 2 people or more together, a decent flash (I'd say with thyrystor, auto) should help more than super-fast lens (I mean lack of DOF).

Thank you all for your advice. I dropped teh idea of 35 mm and have now bought Kiron 28 mm f/1.7. Complementing all manual lenses with split focusing screen.

I owned the Rokinon 35/1.4 for about a week.
The ONLY reason I returned it was because I often shoot dance performances, and the manual focus work combined with the size was a killer.
I can tell you that it was tack sharp - edge to edge from the word go.

I finally found a new FA 35mm.2.0.
My 2 cents...

Finally, I got a Kiron 28 mm f/2. To complement, I have ordered for JInfinance dual split focusing screen as I now have a number of manual focus lenses. Thank you all for the advice shared. Will revert back on the lens and focussing screen once I have worked with them.

Based on what you have already... unless you really, really want those lenses (just because), I doubt you really need them to be honest...
