Alright, alright, I'm sold. Now can anyone point me to a tutorial on how to properly lube up a lens because that's the only way it's ever going to be more than a very solid little boulder on my desk?

I found this link http://allphotolenses.com/public/files/pdfs/0209e046cf1b8a29a4af9f50899ffab4.pdf . Looks like the mont is not M42 but that shouldn't make a big difference. Mine was hard to focus too when I bough it however I started to use it more and more and now the focus ring turns a lot easier (still not silky smooth).

There are a couple of tutorials out there, but IIRC, they apply to the M39 LTM (Leica thread mount) version or Kiev/Contax version, both of which have a very different construction from your lens.

It is totally different, you might find the following link helpful.
Glass, Metal and Silicium - Jupiter 9 (M42 version) servicing
It is the same as the earlier silver version. I have a similar 1972 black one.
