"Most useful", or "most used"?

Not necessarily the same.

My most used is the DA 18-135 WR, but my favourite at the moment is the Sigma 70 macro. Add to that my new used A-400 and that is one fantastic walk around kit. TO be made even better with the arrival of the Sigma 8-16, ordered but not shipped yet.

Whoa, hcc, I like your style (and I have both of those lenses too). However, for me it's the DA*16-50.
Same here.

The house next to us isn't for sale officially, but I know what price she wants for it if you want to make her an offer. It will come on the market in two years if the informal thing doesn't work.

I just went through my LR4 metadata and found I use the following in descending order; FA31 Ltd, DA*50-135, FA43 Ltd, DA18-135 WR, FA*24 f2, FA 50 f1.7. I could probably just sell my Sigma 10-20, Sigma 17-50, DA*60-250 f4, FA77 Ltd, Voigtlander 58mm Nokton f1.4 However, I think the FA31 Ltd is THE most useful, with it's "normal" perspective, sharp from f1.8, razor sharp at f4.

Since I got it last fall, the 43 ltd rarely leaves my K5 (and then only briefly).

i'm puzzled by the question. useful does not necessarily imply it has to take good pictures, right?
that said, probably a zoom and my most used zoom is the FA*28-70/2.8 which actually does take good pictures but not as good as any of the primes i have in that range.
my most useful pair of shoes are my 30-ry old worn pair of Reeboks with no laces; man, any job around the yard calls for them.
what was the question again?

My most-used lens is the kit lens (v1) which I plan to replace hopefully soon. But my most useful ones are the 15mm Ltd and M50/1.7. They give me the best shots when I need that focal length.

Most used:
The kit lens (WR). Followers are the SMC-A 2.8/28 and the Pentacon 3.5/30 (depends on my mood). For people/portrait: Helios 44K-4.
I am desperately missing an affordable (non-existing) SMC-A 1.4/30.

This is exactly a mapping of my preferencies of the film days to APS-C:
Then it was the Tokina ATX 2.8/35-70, followed by the SMC-A 1.4/50.

All of my lenses I consider useful as each one is excellent for certain shots. My photography is very seasonal. In winter, I use my telephotos a lot shooting motorcycle racing on the ice and skiing and snowboarding. Come spring and summer, it's car shows, motorcycle rallies and my DA 15 and DA 10-17 are constantly used. For people shots and walking around, the 18-55 kit gets used quite a bit. I also shoot sports in summer so the telephotos get used then too and to relax, I paddle the lakes and swamps with a long tele in search of herons, loons and anything else intermixed with fly fishing. Since I really don't have a lens with a range like the 18-135, I can't put a most useful label on any one lens. Most useful depends on where I am and what I am shooting.
