A question for owners of the Da*200

I can see the aperture blades when the lens is set to wide open F2.8. Is this normal?

When mounted on the camera (or when holding the actuator lever open) I see a perfectly round aperture, no diaphragm blades in sight.

Thanks for all the replies. This is the third copy of this lens in 11 weeks. The focusing failed on my 2nd copy so they agreed to give me a new replacement. 2 days later I returned with the new preplacemet to Pentax service center pointing out that the rear element was filthy and that the color and contrast wide open was weak compared to the other 3 copies i have used. Pentax loaned me a copy when they were checking my 2nd copy. The 2nd copy failed 2 days after being returned.

They had this copy for 2 weeks and I collected it this monday. I found that I was having to dial in plus one exposure comp. So I checked the aperture actuation by setting the camera to bulb mode and the aperture to f2.8. On pressing and holding the button looking into the lens I could see the blades of the aperture had closed slightly.
Tuesday I went to the service center again and showed the technician. He said it is perfectly fine and is not under exposing.

It seems that their cure for the weak contrast and color was to adjust the aperture lever so that it has a smaller wide open aperture.

I am at my wits end!

Thanks again for the confirmations

To cheer you a little (well maybe not), I went through 3 FA*200/2.8 b4 they handpicked one from Japan for me. That must be almost a decade ago already.

You must be very patient and I hope you were satisfied.

I really like the quality of the images I can get with this lens when it is working well. So I hope I can get it sorted.
