AF160FC on a Zeiss 50mm macro

Guys and Gals,
Does anyone have any experience with this combination. I just picked up a Zeiss 50mm f2.0 Makro lens and was wondering about it's compatibility with the AF160FC. The description says it can thread into a 67mm thread but would the flash vignette the lens. My other Pentax macros have 49mm threads so plenty of room to spare. I would be using it primarily on flowers and such. Any experience appreciated. Thanks,

Dave

I have used the Zeiss 50mm f2.0 Makro (in Nikon F mount though) and there is a possibility there will be vignetting, but I doubt that it will be significant. Like some manufacturers Zeiss used an oversized filter ring for the 50mm f/2 Makro, 67mm filter threads are rather uncommon in this class of lens, most 50mm Macro lenses with apertures of f/2~2.8 use filter threads around 49 to 58mm. I use the 67mm adapter in conjunction with a 72mm step down ring so I can use the AF160FC with my Sigma 180mm f/3.5 ( 72mm filter thread) without any vignetting issues.

Digitalis, Thanks, I had suspected as such but nice to hear it is actually so for others. Do you find the AF160 a worth will flash for macro which in my case would be only 1:2 which is fine for my needs.

I find the AF160FC to be extremely useful and not just for macro photography, It can be used for portraiture and wildlife photography. Ringflashes are essentially shadowless so they are excellent when used as a secondary light source filling in dark shadows. Also when working with wireless flash units the AF160FC cam be used as as an optical trigger, the 120mm flash tubes on the pentax ringflash are easily seen by slave units. And when working with macro extension tubes the modelling lights are very useful for providing illumination for focusing on the subject

Here are a few sample images with with AF160FC as either a primary or secondary light source:

Pentax K5IIs with Sigma 180mm f/3.5 APO EX - Pentax AF160FC ringflash and supplemental lighting from wireless AF540 and AF360 + 82mm worth of extension tubes used
