Does this hood fit FA31?

Hi all!

Im buying FA31 and want to ad protection and shade for the lens (am shooting k5). I wonder if this hood will fit inside the built in one, Heliopan 58mm metal lens hood (short)

Anyone with this constellation on their FA31?

Regards
Daniel

I doubt it...there is no clearance between the inside of the hood and the outside of where a filter would be. You would need a hood that did not widen past the 58mm filter diameter.

Probably not. I'd stick with the built-in hood!

That looks really expensive. I went with something similar and it was like 5 bucks...search other threads on this. To answer your original question, the flanged out shape may still work within the built in hood as the threads themselves are well inside that diameter...do a search.

I use the built in hood with a glass-less filter stack to boost the side coverage. I`ve never seen any difference in contrast or flare resistance though.

Based on the advice of others on the forum I purchased this - Amazon.com: RainbowImaging 7 Metal Step Down Ring Set, Anodized Black Metal 52-49mm, 55-52mm, 58-55mm, 62-58mm, 67-62mm, 72-67mm, 77-72mm: Camera & Photo

Just keep removing step-down rings until the vignetting goes away.

Thanks for fast responses and suggestions.

Cheap price is a plus but compared to the lens price its still relatively inexpensive protection for the lens.

Ive have search the forum and seen this stepdown + short hood solution several uses. On another site i saw a solution that looks good but is not sure it's the same product I linked to above.

At a glance it looks like a pretty slick solution but am not sure...

Many of us found a hood that is very inexpensive similar to the one you just mentioned.
Search fleabay for the Panasonic FZ18 58mm lens hood (there are two pieces, the top portion fits perfectly on the FA31.

I do this aswell, enough cheap filters avail in camera shop clearance bins to do this with cheaply. Also allows the use of cpl/ND filters on the front of the lens.

I got the same off Amazon. I also use a 58-49mm step down wring so I can use my 49mm filters and lens caps.

So can you screw in a 58mm filter on the FZ18 hood? I can't tell from the pic, but it looks sweet. Does the slide-on lens cap fit over it or do you use a different one?

buy it ... it works and the quality is nice and does not vignette. yes cheap ebay hoods could probably work but when you screw it on, it may feel gritty and it's not a comforting feeling on the FA31. however it will vignette on full frame.

their 49mm hoods were also very nice on the FA43 and the FA77 and it worked for crop or full frame. for the FA43, you can use it as a replacement for the provided hood (i.e. NOT how i show in the photo).

the biggest reason for using these hoods is that you can use standard lens caps instead of the silly felt lens caps which look nice but are expensive to replace and get loose after lots of usage.

here is my thread from long time ago

Yes, it's designed as an adapter for the Panny cameras to allow the use of 58mm filters.

Yes, it can fit the original lens cap, but you might prefer to do as K100d mentioned and use a regular lens cap and save the original. I use a 58mm-49mm step down ring to allow the use of my 49mm accessories, lens cap included.

This Janco FZ18 58mm Adapter is the one I use.
