Lowell, you are taking this way way too seriously. Its an observation, nothing more. The only thing that this thread has highlighted is that I have a bag of lenses that I personally like and use and that the majority of the forum agree. And that I value the reviews from our fellow forum users.

Also, if you have too many 55s that are unrated, how come when you can rate them and share your experience with us?
First point taken, second point I think you misread the sentence. I have approximately 55 lenses, not a lot of ~55mm lenses Many of these are unique to me within the forum, or sufficiently unique that the few ratings that exist for them , hence the ratings are not statistically reliable regardless of whether I rate the, or not, but regardless, you are correct, I need to update / rate them any way

Jean, I agree with you. It looks like us realists need to stick together

I agree that it's all in good fun, and yes, I do think that some people care about the ratings of their lenses ... and in particular the lenses that they are planning to buy in the future.

I never said that there was anything wrong here ... but I think that the ratings are kind of silly for one's bag and are highly subjective ... enough said.

Excuse me if I hurt anyone's feelings ... J
Fair enough. I guess it is sort of like those crappy quizzes you see that tell you what Disney character you are or something.

And on that note I implore people to buy a lens based on how it feels and the pictures you've seen from one, not from the ravings about sharpness and micro-contrast with 'I can't give it a 10 so I'll give it a 9 because it's the first manual lens I've ever bought'.

And yes, ignore my reviews, they're gibberish. MADNESS.

Also: DOWN WITH REALISM.

Apologies for misreading.
Great to hear that you might think about putting some of the unique ones up

F43 f/1.9 hmm, I sometimes forget I have this
How can you forget that lens? Forget it at my home if you want.

As for my kit, I've built a near-perfect lineup for my needs, and it shows in the ratings:

Sigma 17-70- 8.5
DA*60-250 - 9.67
DA21 - 9.15
DFA 100mm macro WR - 9.67
F50 f1.7 - 9.19
DA18-55 - 7.59

Average : 8.96

The worst optically is the kit lens, of course, but it's perfect for WR situations. I don't agree with its score, incidentally.

Pentax DA 18-135mm 8.27
Pentax FA 43mm 9.57

Average 8.92

Gosh, I'm going to have to dump the DA 18-135 for a prime to up my score!

Well, my newest lens is over 20 years old so some of them are not even rated. No auto focus either. Checking through the onse I do have, I think about 8.2 to 8.5 as used on digital cameras. One of my cheapest lenses is a Polar 18 - 28mm that rocks when used with film. Cost me $120 new at the Kimpo airport tax free shop in 1993 or so.

It wouldn't be in my bag if I did not think it was worth carrying. 'Nuff said...

I carry 9 out of the 11 lenses I own. The Tamron 135 2.5 is the worst of the lot but still allows me to stake claim to 9.50 rating...or thereabout.

Most of the time I go out with 3 primes :

DA 15 : 9.45
FA 43 : 9.57
DA 70 : 9.38

Average : 9.47

Not bad
