Whats the overall average lens review rating of your bag? Tongue in Cheek!

My bag currently has the following, a couple of K-5s (classic type) and a few primes. This morning I decided to do a quick average of my lens ratings and from a set of 7 lens, I came to an average value of 9.59

K35 f/3.5 - 9.74
K55 f/1.8 - 9.41
A50 f/1.2 - 9.43
FA31 f/1.8 - 9.47
FA43 f/1.9 - 9.57
FA50 f/1.7 - 9.7
FA77 f/1.8 - 9.79

Some observations:
FA77 Limited is probably the best design overall (tend to agree, but are not telephotos easiest to design? ) + its a very pretty lens
FA50 f/1.7 and K35 f/3.5 - very highly rated, I wonder if sharpness is THE big driver for some?
FA31 f/1.8 This is an interesting one, urban myths about the MiJ vs MiV, big and bulky front element, useless hood, but cost is holding it down ratings wise methinks
K55 f/1.8, my favourite sleeper lens, cheap, lovely wide open, just keep it at wider than f.2.8 and the bokeh is painting like
F43 f/1.9 hmm, I sometimes forget I have this, but when I put it on it never disappoints, the forgotten Limited?
A50 f/1.2 For me, Pentax's best 50 bar none, sorry and nobody will ever convince me otherwise

Anyone agree, disagree? Anyone want to steal my bag?

At first I thought you were talking about monetary value and I really didn't want to go there.

For the five lenses I carry on a daily basis, my average is 9.49.

SMC Pentax-A 15mm F3.5 - 9.0
SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.2 - 9.43
SMC Pentax-A* 85mm F1.4 - 10.0
SMC Pentax-A* 135mm F1.8 - 9.20
SMC Pentax-A* 200mm - 9.83

Not really sure what you can determine from this, but whiled away a few minutes doing it.

Hi Robbie - I'm certain you have me beat by a point or so - I've a couple DA Limiteds, the SMC-A 24mm and 50/1.7 and the 55-300 which gather praise, but nobody likes my 18-55wr and the manual gear is too seldom rated.

Hope all is well in Cork, I should like to revisit the family homeland some day!

That's impossible to beat, unless you have some dogs like the F 35-80mm F4-5.6 hidden in your closet!

My total list is:

K35/3.5 - 9.74
M50/1.7 - 9.32
M85/2 - 9.13
M135/3.5 - 8.44
A50/1.7 - 8.94
F35-70/3.5 - 8.72
F35-105/4 - 8.43
F70-210/4 - 8.44
Sigma EX 180 macro - 9.75
Sigma EX 15-30/3.5 - 9.57

The old Tamron 400 is not listed.

My average is 9.05. Which is terrific.

But can you beat my value score? I hereby define Vsc = 100 x points total / cost total (USD, excl postage)

My "Vsc" is 7.40.

Seb

I generally carry one lens from the following:

DA* 16-50 = 8.5
DA* 50-135 = 9.28
DA 35 Ltd = 9.45

If I'm feeling forgiving I might take the FA 50/1.4 = 8.87 but the 50-135 defecates on it from a not inconsiderable height when size isn't an issue. And the 35 is a nicer focal length. Also have (and rarely ever use):

DA 35 2.4 = 9.22
M 135mm f/3.5 = 8.44 (Doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the 16-50)
M 200mm f/4 = 8.31 (Definitely deserves way more than the 135mm)

So my average is 8.87, precisely the rating of the FA 50! Clearly I need a big slice of LBA.

DA 15mm Limited - 9.45
DA 18-55mm (I) - 7.46
DA 55-300mm - 8.68
M 50mm f/1.7 - 9.32

Average: 8.7275

Hmm... Planning on replacing that kit lens some time soon...

As a beginner, not so hot yet...

DA 18-135mm WR - 8.27
A 50mm F1.7 - 8.94
Average - 8.61

Probably the next lens I pick up will be the 55-300 but that won't raise it much

I guess I don't get this - how can any real comparison be done when one just rates their own lenses however they want out of thin air?

Take all those lenses and go out and shoot!

Not rated out of thin air, your kit referenced to the Lens review area. And I do take mine out and shoot :-)

I'm not sure what value this is. I use my old Sigma 70-300 Macro for some shots, and it's rated at 7.92, my DA@ 60-250 is rated at 9.62, but in some circumstances the Sigma significantly out performs it. And I wouldn't sell the Sigma based on it's rating. I don't even care what it's rating is, what others may think of it is of little importance. Used for what it's good at, I don't know of a lens that's better.

But I guess as something to kill some time with, it's an interesting question.
