Voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4: my test, incl. Bokeh

I've tested the new Voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4 SLII lens.
The Bokeh of the Nokton is virtually identical to the Pentax A50/1.4.

Examples:
These have been produced by turning the focus ring in small steps, starting from infinity (left).
Please note that it is impossible to do this stepping 100% identical for two lenses. Slight differences in the focus distance are unavoidable.

You can read the complete test here:

The Nokton is a very good lens!
Recommended!

Hey, thanks for the exceptional

and extensive work you've done on these comparisons. I'm particularly interested in the CV 40 f/2, so the link worked well for my needs.

You certainly spent a lot of time testing the copies. Thanks for doing the tests. It seems that Nokton is basicly a carbon copy of Pentax A 50mm f1.4 with a higher price tag.

Are you sure the column headings are correct?

Maybe it's just me, but it looks to me like the results in the "Corner" column are significantly better than the crops in the "Center" column on the first several tables. As though maybe the column headers are switched?

No. This is not the case.
If you look carefully, you can see slight weaknesses in the corner (esp. for the M50/1.7).
The center crops appear lighter than the corners. This is normal. It depends on the exposure. You cannot get correct exposure for the center and corner in one image. This affects the contrast, but not the resolution (simplified). You can adjust contrast for the center crops and get darker bars, too.

All the 50mm lenses have excellent resolution data.
I was a bit surprised about the slight weakness in the corner of the f1.7 lens. "The internet" is often prefering the f1.7 lens over the f1.4. I never believed that and this test confirmed my doubts.
The main difficulty with these lenses is that manual focussing is really a challenge. I suggest to do focus bracketing, if the motive allows for that.
