70-200 F4-5.6 F for K100D?

Sifting through KEH.com I came across what looks like a pretty good deal. How well would this work with my K100D? I am looking for a budget zoom to capture sporting events (kids soccer, race cars, etc). This lens is $56.

I presume POS is 'piece of sh!t unless there is some photographic term that I am unfamiliar with.

Is there another option for a used starter zoom (~200-300mm) for $50 or so?

if you could go another 55 i've got a LN Vivitar series 1 70-210 f2.8/4 made by komine . it's suppose to be the best of the 5 versions made.
ck ebay, but for 50us it's not going to be much. i've got a 70-150 f4.5 i bought by accident you can have for 35us. i'd need to shoot some with it just to see what it does.

Price is another deal...

... but starter setup SHOULD include DA50-200 IMO- check the MTF and reviews plus pbase gallery - something worth concerning AFAIK :-)

Best and happy/best choices, JR

Only get this lens if you want the power zoom

Otherwise, go for the DA 50-200 or wait for the DA* 60-250.

By power zoom, I presume you mean auto focus?

Does the power zoom does work on K100D? Or on a K10D?

Power from my understanding is not autofocus, although it is included. Basically you push or pull the zoom ring and a slight twist either direction will make do the lens do the zooming for you. Pull the zoom ring back into original position, voila - manual zoom control! There's supposed to be another neat feature with these lenses that keeps the subject in locked focus while zooming in or out (nice for sporting events).

If it works with the K100D I might be looking for one - lol.

The K10D, PZ series, and ZX-5N are the cameras I know of, but there may be more. (The K10D is the only DSLR)

Power zoom support on the K10D, BTW, is by complete conincidence IMO. Pentax didn't intend to incude it, but since they were planning on producing the supersonic DA* lenses, they figured they might as well use the same power connector that's compatible with power zoom.

DOH! I knew those two contacts in the K10D looked familiar to my friend's PZ. At least you just answered two questions for me.
1. It will mount on K100D, but Power zoom features are lost.
2. I have to keep searching for a cheap zoom My LBA grows again.

Thanks!

I'm glad that cleared things up! Consider power zoom a bonus, not a handicap- it doesn't prevent the lens from being used on any camera.

Cheap zooms, eh? Does the FA 80-320 ring a bell? FA 28-105 (PZ version)?

And so, the LBA never stops...

If you are hunting for a cheaper zoom lens keep an eye out for the F70-210. I don't know what the secondhand prices are over your way but I have seen a few here for between US$ 50-100. I have also heard that the A70-210 is as good but then you only have manual zoom.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers

I rated this lens a 6 in the review section, so if it's truly a POS, I better get calibrated
with you guys. I shot the same scene with the DA50-200 and FA70-150.

1. Original scene and crop from the DA50-200.

2. Crops from the FA 70-200. A lot softer wide open, but better closed down.

So I thought it made a decent 45 buck lens. If my standards are too low,
then I stand corrected.

One more sample crop.
