I've got the Sigma 10-20/3.5, 17-50/2.8, 70-200/2.8, 50/1.4 and 85/1.4, and they all have HSM and they work fine on my K-5 bodies.

Not a real review by any means, but I found this article interesting because it looks like they're one of the very first users to get their hands on the new 30mm f/1.4 (for Canon mount):

I find it interesting that that article repeatedly uses the terms "re-branded" and "re-launch," but never says "re-design." Here are the differences I can find between the old and the new:

EX (old):
  • 7 elements in 7 groups
  • 8-blade aperture
  • MFD: 15.7 in (40cm)
  • Max magnification: 1:10.4

ART (new):
  • 9 elements in 8 groups
  • 9-blade aperture
  • MFD: 11.8 in (30cm)
  • Max magnification: 1:6.8

Size and weight are almost identical, but the optics inside look very different. I'm looking forward to seeing what difference the new optics make.

Ah....! Ok! Then my suspicion is wrong... Hmm... C'mon Sigma! Launch it in K mount already!!!

Lenstip has a new review of the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 ART for Canon mount:

Sigma A 30 mm f/1.4 DC HSM review - Introduction - Lenstip.com

Note the conclusion section:
"When the Sigma with the Pentax mount is finally released it can also become quite tempting – the [Pentax] 2.4/35 model, made of plastic, slow and expensive for its parameters, will not be a strong rival or a real alternative."

And a video review:

The review claims that the new 30mm is a slight improvement over the old 30mm, but the sample pictures provided don't convince me at all. The pictures I get at 1.4 on the old 30mm look much sharper than what I saw in the sample photos. I have to wonder if focus was exactly perfect, or if it was not an ideal sample.

I like the old styling better, but they're almost exactly the same. The new one is just missing the gold ring, has an "A" badge, and is missing the crinkle finish.
My "old" 30mm actually has the smooth finish. The 30mm is one of the lenses they transitioned from the crinkle finish to the smooth finish, so you will see both versions out there.

These photographers in the 2 reviews don't have that good of sample pics, (one thru the distortions of an aquarium?!)

The price of the lens is good, let's wait for more reviews.....

My thoughts too. It's funny, because they both speak positively of the lens, but the pictures don't support their sentiments. The picture of the kid in the stroller was good, but the other picture of the kid wearing a cap was front focused on the brim of the cap. And let's not even mention the pictures of the fish in the aquariums at high ISO.

And the other review, I didn't see a single sharp picture, not even the ones at f5.6 or f8. Strange.

Hoping that the Pentax version of this lens will be offered by Sigma... just saw on a Sony Alpha "rumors" site the following comments:

QuoteQuote:
Good morning,
We will still be making Sony mount for some of the new Global Vision lenses. The new 35mm as well as the new 17-70 both have Sony versions. The new 120-300 won’t be in Sony, but the older version wasn’t either. The only upgraded lens that has dropped Sony was the new 30mm and from I can tell, that was due to the older version selling poorly. Our parent company didn’t see the demand for the lens and therefore decided not to produce it.
Please be assured that going forward, Sigma will still be producing lenses for Sony cameras, however which new lenses get made in Sony are determined on a case by case basis.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!
Sincerely,

Sigma 30mm will not be made for A-mount “due to the older version selling poorly” | sonyalpharumors

I hope the same decision has not been reached for Pentax, because after all, the Pentax version of the old 30mm probably sold pretty well as a cheaper alternative to the FA31, so Sigma would not have the same excuse as it does for not offering the new 30mm in Sony mount....

OK, I just emailed Sigma directly asking about the future release of their 30mm f/1.4 ART lens for K-mount, and they responded in less than 20 minutes! Very impressed and happy with that customer service!

Here is their answer. Interesting how it appears to be a different position from the answer given above to the Sony user, in that it's far less detailed, yet seems to suggest that they're open to releasing the lens for Sony alpha mount "at a later date." In any case, I only care about Pentax mount so hopefully this Sigma representative is correct on that point!

Hello Brian,
At the moment we are producing the lens in the mounts with the largest market share, Canon and Nikon, Sony and Pentax should follow at a later date but we don’t have it yet.

This is the response I got from Sigma about the new 30mm.

Good morning,

Unfortunately, the new 30mm F1.4 is only scheduled to be released in Canon, Nikon and Sigma mount. There are no plans to create one for Pentax or Sony.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Well, that really sucks. Confusing, though, to have different opinions offered by Sigma. But yours came from a sales supervisor, whereas my response came from someone who didn't give a title.

Guess I'll have to save even more for that FA 31...
