DA v. FA 200*

Just wondering, why would one pay $1200-1400 for the FA (current asking prices on eBay) rather than $1100 for the DA w/SDM? For use on DSLRs, I mean. I accept that the absence of an aperture ring on the DA might mean something to some, but still..........

Of course, the DA hasn't yet arrived, exactly..........

The current price of the FA* is due to the past supply and demand problem (like any old/discontinued Pentax lens). As soon as it's confirmed that the DA* is no different than the FA* (not just the design), then I think the FA* might come down in price. Personally, I like the substantial look of the old FA*, especially the silver/black FA* prime tradition which really distinguishes itself from the rest.

I've done a short comparison between these two over the weekend. Both seem to perform the same on my K10D and K20D. The FA*200/2.8 has quite a bit BF problem w/ the K10D, but it's spot on w/ the K20D. The DA*200/2.8 doesn't have focusing problem on both cameras.

Sharpness, color. PF (or CA or whatever it's called) are pretty much the same. AF speed is also quite similar, but the DA* is alot quieter and feels smoother. Plus a weather sealed barrel, I do think the DA*200/2.8 is a better buy. If I didn't have the FA*200/2.8, I probably would buy the DA*200.

I don't think I'd change my FA*200/2.8 to a DA* anytime soon. It's such a beautiful lens, much prettier than the black DA*200 imo

Thanks, guys; I too like the 'FA' look. I didn't know there were any DAs out there yet. I don't think and sellers here in the US have it. I'm glad the test showed equivalent performance - more choice.........
