It's here! First photo shoot with Sigma 85mm

The Sigma 85mm 1.4 that I ordered a few days ago from 47th Street Photo arrived today. My first thoughts on looking at the lens in person were "Wow, that's a big piece of glass". It really is an impressive looking lens.

It's focusing almost perfectly with an AF correction of -3, so I may not even send it in for the free calibration. I've mostly only used it at f/1.4 so far, but I've been impressed with the sharpness wide open.

Although the title of this thread may have made you think I was using the 85mm for a photo shoot, it was actually the other way around. The 85mm was the model at the photo shoot. I always enjoy "lens porn", so I couldn't help myself from getting some pictures of this beauty. The pictures of the lens off the camera were taken using my K-30 / Tamron 28-75mm, but the pictures of the lens mounted on the K-30 were taken using an Olympus XZ-1. Enjoy!

Well done Edgar... ..it's most definitely the Darth Vader to your Storm-trooper K-30.

It is a fantastic lens. Now you need the new 35/1.4.

For what i do, i have only 2 pentax lens which is the 50-135 and the 50 1.4 with the rest being Sigma and Tamron. The sigma 85 1.4 is one fun lens to use.

Believe me, the thought has crossed my mind, but I'm pretty sure that my wife is going to need some time to recover from this one. Her favorite line is that I don't use my camera to make money, so I don't need such expensive lenses.

The 85 f1.4 is a superb lens. It was only the size that put me off carrying it more. In the end I've bought the 77 Limited to replace it with. But I certainly doubt that you'll be disappointed with the 85's quality.
