WOW!!! That's crazy!
I'm new around here but I don't think I'd ever be able to do that to my gear!

This should be posted to the competitor manufacturers forum pages, it's a great shot and sums up for me that Pentax feeling.

@ minahasa, great shot, thanks for posting, it made my day.

I took the bike and pedaled out in the rain to a lake to look for some cranes, I didn't see them but found other birds instead. Both my camera and I ended up dripping wet.

The DA* 16-50 is not $1600 - it's $969:

Ah ok - sorry I missed that.

At least you've got some folks to show you some actual use in the rain. I've found this thread quite interesting.

As have I, and inspiring at the same time.

I think I've settled on the 50-200 WR for now. I don't plan to go stand in any waterfalls after all. I just want to be able to shoot in the rain.

Normal rain or storms.

A WR lens should be ok for that and the 50-200mm has a pretty big hood to keep the water off the front element. As well as a very good zoom range.

I also don't really need the speed of a 2.8 since the high iso performance of the K-5 is great. I've never once been scared to shoot and print between 3200 and 6400.

Glad that you've been able to come to a conclusion. I am in the same boat in a way - just want the ability to go out and shoot in a summer rain - some great image opportunities. I've had a couple WR/DA* lenses, but am down to one now - the DA*60-250. This is our "take everywhere" lens and it is so nice not to worry about shooting with it in the rain or from the spray of a waterfall.

I've also had the regular DA-L 50-200 and it is a nice lens - just need to stop it down a notch and you'll get some great images.

A very sensible choice. Keep the hood on, stop it down a touch - I find that the MTF program takes care of that, take out any CA in post - not that there is much at the long end and make sure that SR does lock in - I often find that I don't give it enough half press time, especially when wearing gloves. Have fun !
