New Sigma 18-35 F1.8 APS-C

Looks like it will be a very nice one for street/low light situations, sadly probably not on Pentax mount for now: 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art | Sigma

so.. it says its for aps-c bodies, but advertises the focal length as 18-35... but then goes on to say its a 27-52 equiv... so will it cover a FF image circle or not? Sigma is confusing.

Wow, they really made it!! Its for real!! This lens if it is any good will definitely be a game changer. I can't wait to see what the pictures look like that are produced from this lens. I really hope they make it in the Pentax mount. Sigma is really trying to be the premiere lens maker in the photography industry!

That's a standard conversion.
18 mm on APS-C, same angle of view
as 18 x 1.5 = 27 mm on FF.

Or 35 x 1.5 = 52.

That remains to be seen when someone can test the lens on a 135 format camera.
But the lens is intended for use on crop format cameras.

oh wait., I'm asleep again. :S

*finds the coffee pot*

Carry on, no stupid questions concerning focal length and field of view here. Nothing to see nothing to see

Hmmm coffee..

An interesting lens, it covers a useful 27-52mm(35mm equiv.) focal range. Though like most fast zoom lenses it is bound to have some pretty nasty astigmatism.

Curious to see how this pans out. Could make a good case for negating the need for full frame (if the price is right).

Everybody uses the FF 35mm equiv. when describing their lenses, even small P&S cameras. I wonder how many people really understand that spec these days since the vast majority of customers have probably never used a 35mm SLR or a FF DSLR to know what it means.
