Takamur 135/F2.5

I have seen these lenses fairly at fairly low prices. I have seen some comments that they don't compare to the SMC version.

Any personal experiences with the lens - is it worth purchasing at any price?

You mean the Takumar(bayonet)?
I have one that I got years ago. They're uncoated so they flare very very easily. On the other hand if used carefully they are capable of some decent pictures, but you can't force them to do things they can't do, if that makes any sense. Their build quality is actually pretty nice. I see them on fleabay all the time, usually with a price starting around $79.95 and BIN at something crazy like $99.95. These guys are trying to exploit the f2.5. Check the lens database for reviews. You shouldn't pay more than $20 or $25 for one. If you really want to pay a hundred bucks or even $75 for one, though, I'll sell you mine!:-).

me too!!!!! why not get two?? one for backup.
i've had 2 of these both for under $20usd. first one wasn't even a decent paperweight.. second one shoots pretty d#@# good.. it's a toss up what yours will be.. i've been slamed for the paperweight reference before and didn't know that some of these are quite good.. i'll still let you have my assured good copy for a hundred bucks if you want it.

I paid $35US for mine about 2 years ago. If you can get one for $50US and don't mind dealing with a full manual lens, it's not so bad. It's plenty sharp. I've used it a dozen times or so with good results. I'm not hesitant to pull it out if the situation warrants it, but I never point it in the direction of a light source due to the flaring. I thought I had some shots in my PaD with this lens, but apparently not.

I have this lens(takumar bayonet 135), my copy is actually pretty sharp even at f/2.5 and except flare (which it handles very poorly but only a problem if you shot in the sun), I'm very pleased with it, is it also light (~390 grams and well build).

See here some samples, all at f/2.5, 50% resized.

and a 100% crop, no pp (the blur on the sides is because of the shallow dof, the image was not taken perpendicular to the wheel).

Look good to me!

What I really want to buy is one of the DA* lenses or the new fast Tamron lens - but that will not be this year. I was thinking of this one if picked up very inexpensive for the moment, but only if it is "functional"...
