Vivitar teleconverter 2x-22

I found a Vivitar 2x-22 teleconverter at a local thrift store ($3) in good (perhaps excellent) condition. It has a Pentax rear cap on it, and a Vivitar front cap that has a PK marking. However, when i try to mount any of my lenses, they will slip in to the unit, but will not rotate or lock into place. I can't figure out what i am doing wrong and would love some guidance/input from the members. Also, does anyone have any feedback on how good this model it? Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

I think this will help solve the installation problem -> link.

About image quality: I think you will be disappointed. But $3 is a good price, just give it a try. If you don't like to use it as a TC, you can remove the glass and make it an extension tube.

Here is a test shot with the Vivitar 2X-22 on a 50 mm lens at f/11
As you can see, a lot of sharpness is lost.

I used this back in the eighties.
It was the best of the affordable ones (I had checked the tests in German photo magazines).
I think the original Pentax of that time was 4x the price.

This one is a much simpler design than the Pentax, and also than the more expensive Vivitar ones.
Just 4 lenses in 2 groups, compared with the 7 lenses of the better designs.

I remember there was some reduced resolution, but VERY MUCH reduced contrast.
I think I had the best results not adding it to tele lenses, but to 50mm primes. It saved me taking a bag with me for a tele lens or a zoom, because it fittet easily in the pocket of my shirt.
Using it with zoom lenses of that time, the results were just too bad.

As far as I remember, my copy of this TC did not have a flange at all.

To the OP:
Are you sure the aperture actuation lever is not bent or otherwise damaged?
Without a protecting flange, damaging can easily happen.

EDIT: Can you send a picture of the TC mount (lens side)?
