The DA version should have the hood, a metal mount and quick shift. It will cost $350 - $400. The DAL version has no hood, plastic mount and no quick shift. It will cost around $200. The hood is easily found on ebay for maybe $5. The plastic mount is not an issue, I've never heard of anyone having an issue with it. The quick shift I do miss but if you want that then you need to pay the money for the DA version. Optically they are identical.

As I understand it the DAL version was only made to be sold in 'kits' along with the camera so I doubt you will get a boxed one.

Okay, that makes sense now, I wasn't sure why there was one with a green band on it and one with a silver one, I couldn't spot any difference other than price. Thanks! At least that clears that up.

It looks like that'll be my choice then! But for some reason every one I am able to find on Ebay and even the forum market place, none of them have a hood... Even though some of them are brand new in the box. Is it supposed to come with a hood?
The DA L does not come with a hood. The DA comes with a hood and soft bag. It also has a metal mount, quick shift and distance scale.

You can pick up a hood from China on eBay for a few dollars.

Would it be possible to switch out the mount for a metal one? Haha from say a Sigma lens?

Anything is possible. I doubt it would be a good idea. Seriously, the plastic mount is fine. No one on this forum has ever reported an issue with the plastic mount on that lens. I've had mine for over three years on two different cameras, carried it with me on numerous trips and hikes and the mount looks like new.
