I think you made the right choice. I've owned the 100wr, 50-135, 55-300 and now the 60-250. The 100 macro isn't a suitable general purpose telephoto and it'll lack the range you're looking for. The 50-135 is a really compact (for it's class) kind of lens and very versatile with reliable quality pretty much at all settings.
