Which AF 50 would you keep?

I am in the enviable position of owning both the new DA50/1.8 and the venerable FA50/1.4. I can not justify keeping both lenses, so I must sell one.
  • The FA50/1.4 is in good shape but is a number of years old and has none of the original gear (replacement lens cap and rear cap, no box, etc.)
  • The DA50/1.8 is brand new, has been on the camera to try it out for a few shots but is essentially as new with all its parts and gear included.
I also own an M50/4 Macro, M50/2, ST55/1.8, and Tak50/1.4. So, which of the AF 50s would you keep and why?

I would go do tests with them and see which one you like best, though you can likely get more for the FA 50.

Keep them. Unless you are eating cat food, keep them. Someday you might want to shoot with multiple lenses at the same time. Like if you wanted to shoot stereo images and needed two identical focal lengths side-by-side in different bodies. Nah. Keep BOTH!

I'd advise to sell off the FA50/1.4 and keep the DA50/1.8..
Coz it's more modern, and made for digital.
If you need "character" and "flavor" of the yesteryears, just slap on your tak and that's it... Besides, the ST55/1.8 has more character than the A/FA50/1.4..

Shooting at f/1.4 isn't something you will do every day but f/1.8 doesn't have that same creamy bokeh. You can always stop down the FA but you can't open up the DA. If you're ok with the Tak, then you're covered. Just speaking for myself, I really don't trust my eyesight these days to shoot at f/1.4 with MF unless I have a lot of time and I do all my MF shooting on my Katz Eye equipped K10D.

I can't think of any reason to keep a DA50 over the FA50/1.4. Just buy a replacement lens cap for $2 off ebay. The FA50 has an aperture ring, faster aperture, is guaranteed as FF capable. and has a metal mount. The DA50 has .... an OEM lens cap? I don't see it as a hard decision.

I had the 50/1.4 and never really warmed up to it. That said, I would likely keep it over the 1.8.

What reeftool said. Keep the FA, for the f1.4 with AF--unless you prefer the DA's rendering.

Keep the FA,
because you should get at least $200 for the DA,
and not really lose any photographic capability.

I think that I read in Falconeye's thread that the DA 50/1.8 was FF capable like the DA 35/2.4 ... need to double check because I have neither of these lenses and I am debating between these two 50's as a possible "next" acquisition ... I have a few MF 50 glass at 1.4 & 1.7+, but no AF 50 ... J

I'm not sure too but i'm pretty certain it will work as, like the DA35/2.4 is to FA35/2, the DA50/1.8 is basically a repackaged A50/1.7, that's all...

Sell them all and get the DA*55 , maybe keep the Macro if you indulge in close up every now and again.

Erm... How about that but end off with the DA50/1.8 instead, freeing some more cash for other stuffs...?
